Jean in an Oscar de la Renta dress speaking at Southampton hospital lunch
The next week I attended a luncheon for the Southampton Hospital - a charity dinner she has chaired for the past three years. During the course of this time, she has raised over four million dollars for the hospital so as Jean said, "everyone who needs health care can get it." Chuck Scarborough who spoke at the event described Jean as "indefatigable and irrepressible." He has been friends with Jean for eight years and admires her relentless energy in raising money for causes she believes in.
Gregory Speck, an esteemed author and dance critic, said "Jean is among the most gracious ladies ever to emerge at the philanthropic end of high society." After spending a lengthy afternoon in her company I can definitively agree, that Mrs. Shafiroff is indeed a light to which all socialites should aspire.
