E-mail Marilyn Foley & Corinna: A Hip Stop on the Lower East Side - filed 1/3/2000 © The Look On-Line A new reason to venture east of Soho ( or NoLita, for that matter), is Foley & Corinna, a new boutique at l08 Stanton Street. The collaboration of Dana Foley and Anna Corinna Sellinger (pictured right and left respectively,) this 700 square foot shop is an eclectic, colorful, and hip emporium, located just one block east of Orchard Street (it lies between Essex and Ludlow). For those seeking one of a kind or vintage items, this store offers a wide variety. There is clothing of all kinds: furs, scarves, hand-knit shawls and ponchos, lame evening separates, in addition to hotter-than-hot snakeskin and python bags and belts, vintage Pucci and vintage Gucci. (The inventory is roughly 50% vintage, 50% clothing designed by Dana-handbags designed by Anna). I first met Anna while making the rounds at the 26th street flea market and the Vintage shows around town. I found myself constantly drawn to her booths by her wonderful eye and eclectic merchandise, and I was not alone! Fashion designers like Anna Sui and Donna Karan are loyal customers as well, usually walking away with numerous of her 'finds'. (In fact, Anna was commissioned by both Ralph Lauren and Donna Karan to supply their stores with her handmade bags). Even with her new retail venture, she still plans to exhibit at the various Vintage shows-she will be at the Metropoltan Pavillion at the end of January- under the name Anna Corinna, and will reappear on weekends at the 26th street flea market in the Spring. The store is a welcome addition to the ever-evolving lower East Side, and it is opened 7 days a week from l2 to 8. The telephone number is 212 529-2338. - filed 12/10/99 © The Look On-Line Emilio Pucci: A Blast From the Past on East 64th Street One step inside the Emilio Pucci boutique at 24 east 64th street (212-752-4777) and you ar transported to another place and time. This gem of a store is a veritable 'world of Pucci,' from the signature patterned and colored clothing on the racks to the furniture, rugs, and scarves framed like paintings on the walls. It is unique in that it is the only Pucci store outside of Italy (in fact, the other three are in Florence). Pucci, the very height of chic in the 60's, and a wardrobe mainstay of some of the world's best dressed and most famous women (Jackie O, Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, to name a few) has never gone out of style for many hip and fashionable women. While the most coveted pieces are still the vintage 'finds' one is lucky enough to come across, but it is good to know that there is a store where Pucci items can always be found. To prove the influence of Pucci, one need only think back to Tom Ford's Gucci Spring/Summer 1999 Collection, which was filled with widly patterned and colored clothes. And Michael Kors evoked a similar feeling for Spring/Summer 2000 with a trip to Capri/St. Tropez/Palm Beach on both his signature line as well as Celine in Paris. In addition to picking up great holiday and resort clothes and accessories, there are nylon ski jackets, sexy stretch boots with stiletto heels, and gift ideas galore. The oversized velvet pillows, terry cloth tote bags, and silk scarves would make unique gifts for that someone who has 'everything'. and for the man in your life, there are ties, cotton shirts, pocket hankies, and even swim trunks! |
