HOW DO YOU FIND THE LOOK ON-LINE FASHION WEB SITE ON THE INTERNET? We got our PC last Christmas. I didn't know the first thing about computers and the more I learn, the more I know I don't know. Friends of mind told me they had found Maggie on the internet so I went on-line and started searching. It quickly became evident to me that there are all kinds of sites for almost any subject that one might explore. I got lucky. I found Lookonline relatively quickly.

To make matters better, he had pictures, which is what I really wanted. I swept through those with gusto and lo and behold, I found two pictures of Maggie from the Spring/Summer shows. One was from Anna Sui and the other, Marc Jacobs. It was one of those moments that gives you a real start. Maggie had been modeling only a few months and there she was on the internet. I had some questions so I e-mailed the site, almost inadvertently, and got a response from Ernest Schmatolla, the site's editor.

The fact that I was not sitting anonymously at a keyboard suddenly hit me. There are people out there! Ernest has been a big help to me. He answers idiotic questions I post to him with grace and has even been so kind as to send me pictures of Maggie that he's found from other shows. In fact, he recently sent me one of her smiling! (I can't be the only model's mother who opens a magazine hoping her child is smiling. Sometimes I look at a picture and think, "That's how she looks when I tell her she can't borrow the car" or I find myself hoping that the look was intentionally created, because otherwise she's getting sick.)

FROM THE EXPERIENCES YOU'VE HAD SURFING THE NET, HOW MUCH FAITH DO YOU HAVE IN THE INTERNET'S ROLE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY? WHERE DO YOU THINK ITS TAKING US IN GENERAL? The internet brings you everything you want and don't want. It's still in its sophomoric stages but I'm very optimistic about its future. It's a world of entertaining education right at your fingertips. You can explore any subject you want in detail and have fun. I think eventually phones, televisions, and computers will all be somehow combined into one multi-purpose machine. The fashion industry, just like all major industries, has to take advantage of it. Just think of all the people that can be reached with just one little click!

WHAT ROLE DOES FASHION PLAY IN YOUR LIFE, OUTSIDE YOUR DAUGHTER'S NEW CAREER? WHAT DESIGNERS DO YOU LIKE? Clothes, to me, are utilitarian. They need to be warm and comfortable. They need to be able to withstand small children, a dog, some cats, and general household cleaning. I wear jeans, T-shirts, sweatshirts? Fashion is something I always figured I would consider after I got all my kids through college. I would love to be able to afford Chanel one day. I don't know who my favorite designer is but I like the combined elegance and comfort of Marc Jacobs. I like Jill Sander, Isaac Mizrahi, Michael Kors, Max Mara ?oh and Anna Sui. I just loved those wild little hats that looked like stuffed animals -they looked so warm....Well, I have to go. It's time to pick up the kids from school and take them to the dentist to have their teeth cleaned.
