Introducing a new column of finds in New York. No special focus but from the eyes of someone that is a “discoverer”....

Retail:

Emily’s -1690 Second Avenue at 87th St-212-426-6600 Never noticed before even though it is right across the street from Elaine’s, this is a huge warehouse store with a very good taste level in choosing shoes to discount. You never buy just one pair when you discover this subterranean store. Great prices …sorry guys only ladies.

Kammi -309 Fifth Avenue-around 32nd st-212-213 3083 Strange neighborhood for a very upscale designer shoe store. The designer Francois Eymeric of the Zobboli Collection is well known in Paris and just starting here. Both the owner and designer worked for Rene Manzini before going off on their own. Already discovered by John Anthony, (must have been found by Patrick) this sexy fantasy style collection will be on the fall runways. (click here to see sample) He is right up there with Manolo and Jimmy.

Melissa-the hot junior Shoe Company has sold over one million pairs of their clear plastic sneaker. www.melissausa.com.

New Directions:

At the recent men’s trade shows in New York what looked so new to our eyes were the very constructed sports and suit jackets with all the seams left open. It looks new to have the threads and interfacing showing. Great new look for the young contemporary man….this might get him back into a jacket. Best were shown at Romain Kapadia and Triple Five NYC Soul. New look in “sneaker couture” seen throughout the Italian Riviera…..Remove the laces and wear as a slip on.

Bargains:

Orchids When you think about the Union Square Market, think of where you should buy orchids. The first Farm stand on the Park Avenue side you will find Fantastic Gardens of Long Island. The sell the common variety of orchids in terra cotta pots for $20.00. Cheaper and last longer than the K Mart ones. Don’t go on Sunday…only Friday and Saturday.

Just so you know….

Next time we have a black out or power out, I will not be caught without a cheap phone. Radio Shack’s $14.00 princess model would have worked when none of my over priced ones did. Loved my transistor radio but “talk radio” is scary. Visited the Target in Greatlands, New Jersey and was very unimpressed with the rtw collection by Isaac Mizrahi…..Too matronly…too understated for the customer….they will never relate to it or buy it. Maybe that is why they are taking the collection into the city because it will never sell in the branches. Predict failure of this new association. H & M in New York, cheaper than any where else……. Lower mark up to establish the brand?
